Background of the Study
Wireless networks have become essential in university settings due to the flexibility they provide for students, faculty, and staff in accessing digital resources and collaborating remotely. Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, has increasingly relied on wireless networks to provide internet connectivity across campus. However, challenges related to wireless network coverage, signal strength, and network performance have persisted, especially in remote or less-visited areas of the campus (Oladipo et al., 2023).
Wireless network optimization is a crucial process for improving the coverage, performance, and reliability of Wi-Fi services in large institutions. Factors such as network interference, improper placement of access points, and network congestion can negatively affect signal strength and bandwidth (Aminu & Zubairu, 2023). Optimizing wireless network coverage involves evaluating the existing network setup, identifying dead zones, and implementing strategies like adjusting the placement of access points, frequency channel management, and capacity planning to enhance overall network performance.
This study aims to optimize wireless network coverage at Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, by identifying areas with poor signal strength and proposing effective solutions to improve the coverage and user experience.
Statement of the Problem
Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, faces challenges in providing consistent and reliable wireless network coverage across its campus. Students, faculty, and staff often experience connectivity issues, particularly in remote areas and during peak usage times. The university’s existing wireless network may not be optimized to handle the growing demand for internet access, leading to slow speeds, intermittent connections, and limited access to digital resources. The lack of proper wireless network optimization techniques is contributing to an overall suboptimal user experience.
Objectives of the Study
To assess the current wireless network coverage at Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, and identify areas with weak or insufficient signal strength.
To propose strategies for optimizing wireless network coverage and performance on campus.
To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed optimization techniques in improving wireless network quality.
Research Questions
What are the key areas on campus that experience weak wireless network coverage at Federal University, Birnin Kebbi?
What strategies can be employed to optimize wireless network coverage and performance at the university?
How effective are the proposed optimization solutions in improving wireless network quality at Federal University, Birnin Kebbi?
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on the wireless network infrastructure at Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, particularly on campus-wide signal coverage and network performance. The study will assess and propose optimization strategies for improving wireless network reliability. Limitations may include access to detailed network infrastructure data, the availability of resources for implementation, and the complexity of testing and evaluating all optimization techniques.
